About Alan

Alan Nixon was re-elected in 2008 to a third consecutive term as Councillor. During his nine years on Council he has served on numerous boards and committees. These include the North Vancouver Recreation Commission, Library Board, Heritage Commission, Museum and Archives Commission, Transportation and Planning Advisory, North Shore Transportation Advisory Committee, Lower Capilano Community Centre Steering Committee, Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory Committee (LMTAC), Executive Committee of LMTAC, Metro Vancouver Labour Relations Bureau and the Metro Vancouver Water and Waste Management Committees, North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, Family Court and Youth Justice Committee and the North Vancouver District Waterfront Noise Committee.

One of Alan’s proudest achievements was being named by the British Columbia Library Trustees Assn as an “Advocate” for the work he performed in advancing the construction of the new Main Branch in Lynn Valley as well as his advocacy of “Sunday Openings” at all 3 of the District Library branches.

A resident of North Vancouver for over 50 years, Alan’s extensive record of community involvement began at an early age when as a teenager he was appointed to the Official Board of the Capilano United Church. About the same time he began coaching a local minor league baseball team, and continued to coach and assist when his daughters were active in local soccer and baseball leagues. Alan went to school at Capilano Elementary, Hamilton Junior Secondary and the venerable North Vancouver Senior Secondary.

Alan is a professional Realtor and is currently employed as Vice-President and Managing Broker of Trillium Real Estate Corp. a company that specializes in Condominium sales and Property Management in the Downtown marketplace. He also has an extensive work history in the Industrial and Commercial Construction field which has proven beneficial in many Council deliberations over the past several years.

Councillor Nixon lives in Pemberton Heights with his wife Cathy and their daughter Kirby. His grown, married daughters Wendy and Angela live in Courtenay and Kelowna respectively. He has 4 wonderful grand-daughters, Maia, Jolie, Lucy and Logan.
