- One of my proudest moments as a Councillor occurred when I received a Library Advocate award from the BC Library Trustees Assn. This award recognized the role I played in finally bringing an understandable, comprehensive presentation to the public that garnered enough support to move forward with the construction of the new Main Library in Lynn Valley. The award also recognized my persistence in advocating for and achieving Sunday openings of all 3 DNV Library branches.
- Lobbied Provincial Government for changes to the signaling at the Capilano Road / Highway 1 interchange to allow greater time for exiting Pemberton Heights into the interchange.
- Lobbied for the much needed improvements to the 1000 and 1100 Blocks of West 17th making this important access/exit point to and from Pemberton Heights much safer for vehicles and pedestrians alike.
- Continued strong advocacy for Rail Noise reduction in the CN railyards adjacent to the Norgate Community
- Met frequently with senior representatives of CN Rail to press the need for improvements in operational procedures to minimize impacts of their rail operations.
- Continued to advocate for and achieve continued Sunday openings of District Libraries in spite of suggested severe budget cutbacks.
- Advocated for and achieved the deferral of Exempt Staff wage increases resulting in 2011 savings of approximately $170,000.
- Advocated for and achieved modifications to the District’s Environmental Protection Bylaw to separate Tree issues into its own Bylaw
- Convinced staff and Council to prepare and adopt the new Tree Bylaw that, while not yet perfect, restores the Private Property rights of individuals to enable the removal of large, dangerous trees within individual properties while ensuring the replacement of these trees either on the subject property or elsewhere in the District.
- Worked with Dog Owners in the Deep Cove area to address their concerns around the behavior of Animal Welfare officers and the application of Dog Walking Bylaws and regulations
- Worked with residents of the Lions Gate and Capilano Gateway neighbourhoods to advise on process and input options to the development of the newly adopted Official Community Plan.
- Worked extensively with different staff groups within the Tsleil-Waututh First Nation government to enhance the working relationship in relation to the Cooperation Protocol between DNV and the Tsleil-Waututh.
- Convinced Council colleagues of the wisdom of providing funding to assist in the development of the first Community Garden in DNV located at Old Dollarton Road in the Lynnmour neighbourhood.
- Advocated for and achieved a Council resolution to use some Council contingency funding to allow for the “sprucing up” of Gallant Avenue in the Deep Cove commercial areas.
- Work with staff and developers of Marine Drive multi-family projects to ensure adequate and appropriate traffic pattern enhancements in the surrounding neighbourhoods in exchange for the impacts of their developments.
