Issues

These are just some of the big issues that will face residents of the District of North Vancouver in 2012 and beyond. Please let me know your thoughts and I will offer some of my insights and suggestions as we move closer to November 19th. I welcome your comments and input.

OCP Implementation Strategies and Tactics - how to keep the vision alive and active?

Network of Centres - how much density and where?

Recreation Centre Re-juvenation - a new William Griffen – how much and what will it offer? see this link to the North Shore News article http://www.nsnews.com/news/William+Griffin+centre+rebuild+will+costly/5434230/story.html

Alternate forms of Housing - duplexes, coach houses, more Secondary Suites, Sub-division of larger properties? How do we facilitate more housing at the extremes of the spectrum – housing forms for our “missing generation”, more choices for our ever-growing Senior’s cohort

Financial Stewardship - how do we continue to offer the services we all cherish while keeping our Tax increases in check? More user pay – less services??

Infrastructure Maintenance - how do we get more life out of our existing assets? How do we build new infrastructure that will last longer because we depreciate it properly and set aside reserves for adequate and appropriate Preventive Maintenance.

Big Ticket items and how to pay for them - How do we properly and effectively lobby the senior levels of government to assist in the capital funding of the new Waste Water Treatment Plant that will replace the Lions Gate Primary Treatment plant by 2020?

Business and the Economy - How do we retain our existing businesses by allowing greater flexibility in their expansion needs? How do we attract new clean businesses that will allow more of our highly-skilled citizens work closer to home? What role can we, as municipal government, hope to play in the ever-competitive global marketplace? Are our regulations and bylaws stifling or preventing businesses from locating in the District?

Preservation and Enhancement of the Environment - How do we move forward into the next decades as possibly 20,000 more people live in the District while paying attention to the bigger, deeper “Ecological Footprint” that could result.?
